Pictures and me
I was about 10 years old when I asked my mom to subscribe to a book club. The reason was that it came with a free camera. Things evolved and pretty soon a second-hand darkroom was acquired. The magic of the silvery images revealing themselves in darkness… magical!
Years later I had to choose what to study. Photography was the logical choice. But my first year in art school didn’t end in great success. So I started working in a photo lab and got my certification as a photographer through evening classes.
Fast forward to 2012. I heard a song that touched me deeply. I listened to it for hours and it got me thinking. What I wanted was that my pictures were able to have the same effect on people as this song had on me. It was only then that I realized that up to that moment I had been photographing only because I love the gear, the dials, the technical magic. The pictures I made all those past years were only a side effect. At best a way to remember what I had seen, where I had been.
But from then on, I knew, photography would be the way to truly express myself. A new journey started.
